Assistant attorney general Elise Tannen has been found bludgeoned to death in the desert on the outskirts of Phoenix. The murder weapon is a police baton bearing her husband’s initials. Prosecutor Maya Jaspers wastes little time arresting the victim’s husband, Officer Charlie Tannen. Maya’s quest for justice unwittingly leads her into the secretive police club known as The Watchman’s Circle. Their code is silence. Brotherhood. Maya soon discovers that silence has its own power—born of anticipation and risk—the kind of power that invades a killer’s heart. Racing against time and facing a powerful unseen enemy, Maya must crack the code before the killer silences her forever.

“With the realistic portrayal of a man who has been accused of a crime and the legal process that follows his arrest, Kerrie Droban has created a story that will mesmerize and shock readers. Her hero and heroine have secrets from their past, which haunt them in their personal as well as professional lives. In trying to rectify the past by helping others in the present, both the main characters hope to appease their guilt for their past actions. With heart-stopping action and danger always lurking, THE WATCHMAN’S CIRCLE will keep readers turning the pages from the beginning until the last page is read. With all the twists thrown into the story, one never knows what will happen at any moment.
Assistant Attorney General, Elyse Tannen, has been found murdered in the desert, and her policeman husband, Charlie, has been arrested as his baton was found at the scene. He also has a reputation for abusing his wife. Charlie’s brother, Guy, has offered to defend him. His motives are very personal, as Guy knows Charlie was unjustly accused as a child of a wrongdoing. The prosecutor in the case, Maya Jaspers, knows about domestic violence personally, and she makes certain each one of her cases is investigated fully.
Guy thinks his brother is innocent, and Maya feels certain he is guilty. But each of them thinks several things are wrong with this case, especially as there is no concrete proof that puts Charlie at the murder scene. After several warnings and a break-in at her home, Maya begins to realize her life may be in danger from a secretive group of policemen known as the Watchman’s Circle. They push the limits of the police department, and see what they can get away with without being caught. Are they the ones who are trying to stop Maya from learning the truth, or is Charlie or even someone else the killer?
While Guy and Maya are searching for their own forgiveness, they will learn much about themselves and what they have been seeking in their lives. Both are driven and feel the need to control situations, as their guilt makes them vulnerable. Their emotional reactions to situations are very believable. In Ms. Droban’s book, THE WATCHMAN’S CIRCLE, there is suspense with an underlying mystery, which makes this a story which cannot be put down once it is started.

This story isn’t just about a murder; it’s about closure and finding love. The main characters are plagued by ghost from their past that clouds their judgment. Maya and Guy are not only on opposite sides, but are fighting an attraction that jeopardizes the very fabric of their worlds. I couldn’t put it down until I found out who do it. Kerrie Droban has a gift with words and more than enough imagination to use them, spinning a web to excite the mind. I give Ms. Droban Five Hearts for a job well done. Enjoy!
